Fairfield, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team took game one in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) matchup against LIU, 3-1, as they extended their win streak to seven.

How it Happened:

The Pioneers entered this NEWHA matchup looking to stay hot, and they did just that in the opening period. Bria Holm opened the scoring with a blast from the blue line off an assist from Olivia LaRoche. In net, Jillian Petruno was great, anchoring the defense and recording 11 saves in the first period alone. The Pioneers would head into period two with a 1-0 lead.
Sacred Heart came out flying as Cohen opened the scoring with a determined unassisted effort, setting the tone early for the Pioneers. LIU answered shortly after to keep things tight, but Sacred Heart refused to lose momentum. By the end of the second period, SHU held a 2–1 lead, fueled by dominance at the faceoff dot where they controlled play 11–4. Between the pipes, Petruno stood tall with nine key saves.
The third period became a hard-fought defensive battle. As the clock ticked down and the opposing net sat empty, Addie Bowlby delivered the dagger, burying an empty-net goal off a smart late assist from Cohen. In net, Petruno remained steady under pressure, stopping 11 more shots in the final frame to finish with 31 saves on the night. Cohen capped a tremendous all-around performance with a goal, an assist, and three key blocked shots.
