Pioneers Trade Leads in Tight Dual at Morgan State

Three major victories and a pin fuel SHU's attack

BALTIMORE, Md. — The Sacred Heart University men's wrestling team turned in a gritty road performance on Saturday afternoon but came up short in a 25–14 decision against Morgan State in EIWA action.

Sacred Heart – 14

Of Note:
The dual opened at 197 pounds, where Eric Washington Jr. edged Chris DeLena in a tight 2–0 decision to give Morgan State an early advantage. Sacred Heart answered immediately in the heavyweight bout as Brendan Gilchrist delivered a momentum-shifting pin of Bence Veress at 6:46, swinging the score in favor of the Pioneers, 6–3.

Morgan State regained the lead at 125 pounds when Julian Dawson earned a fall over Caden Smith at 2:24, pushing the score to 9–6. Sacred Heart responded once again at 133 pounds as John Sheehy controlled the action for a 12–1 major decision over Treshaun Tecson to give the Pioneers a 10–9 edge.

The Bears countered at 141 pounds and 149 pounds to stretch their lead to 15–10.

Sacred Heart stayed within striking distance at 157 pounds when Felix Lettini posted an 11–2 major decision over EJ Tecson, cutting the deficit to just one point at 15–14 with three bouts remaining.
Morgan State closed out the dual by earning decisions at 165, 174, and 184 pounds.
