The junior heavyweight earned a seventh-place finish after the two-day championship
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior Brendan Gilchrist delivered a strong showing for Sacred Heart men's wrestling, fighting his way to a seventh-place finish at the 2026 EIWA Championships hosted by American University in the nation's capital.

Dakota Asuncion (149)
Asuncion picked up a win for the Pioneers, defeating LIU's Tommy Bonasera in a 5-2 sudden victory decision in the Round of 16. The graduate student advanced to the quarterfinals before being pinned by Bucknell's Riley Bower, sending him to the consolation bracket, where he fell to Hofstra's Alex Turley by a 4-1 decision.
Brendan Gilchrist (285)
Gilchrist opened his championship run with a 3-2 decision victory over Binghamton's Trent Sibble before suffering back-to-back setbacks. The junior heavyweight first fell in the quarterfinals to Navy's Spencer Lanosga by major decision, 16-2, and later dropped a 19-4 technical fall to Bucknell's Logan Shepard in the consolation bracket.
Gilchrist bounced back in his final bout, defeating LIU's Chris Powell in a 4-1 decision to secure a spot on the podium.
