How It Happened:
The Pioneers built an early cushion behind kills from Zach Flynn and Petr Beranek and strong distribution from Armaan Dosanjh, extending the lead to 9–6. Charleston responded with a run fueled by Max Nissen and Xander Bomert to even the score at 10–10, and the teams traded points through the middle portion of the set. Aleksa Mandic and Beranek delivered key kills to give SHU a narrow 20–19 advantage. A late service ace by Brennan Hoelperl brought Sacred Heart within one at 24–23, but Bomert closed the set on the next rally to give the Golden Eagles the opener, 25–23.
Charleston seized momentum in the second set despite Sacred Heart racing out to an early 8–4 lead behind aggressive net play from Aaron Johnson and Flynn and steady distribution from Dosanjh. The Pioneers maintained control through the middle portion of the frame, extending the advantage to 16–13 after a Flynn service ace and a Mandic kill. Charleston clawed back behind a key service run eventually leveling the score at 18–18. The teams traded points late, but the Golden Eagles capitalized on a late run and SHU service errors to close the set, 25–22.
Charleston carried that momentum into the third set, opening on a 4–0 run. Sacred Heart settled in behind contributions from Jack Krausz and Hoelperl, trimming the deficit to 11–7 with a service ace and improved blocking at the net. Despite the push, Charleston maintained separation through consistent side-out play and timely offense, and the Golden Eagles controlled the closing stretch to secure the set, 25–16.
