How It Happened:
Sacred Heart opened the match with its strongest performance, battling point-for-point with the Patriots in a tightly contested first set. The Pioneers hit an efficient .379 in the frame and were fueled by contributions from Zach Flynn, Aleksa Mandic, and Aaron Johnson. After trailing midway through, Sacred Heart rallied to take a late 23–22 lead and stayed within reach down the stretch, but George Mason closed on a 3–1 run behind key kills from Aidan Weltin and Robert Evangelista to take the set, 25–23.
In the second set, George Mason took control early and never lost it. The Patriots capitalized on Sacred Heart errors and used a balanced offensive attack to steadily build separation. Despite a few kills from Flynn and Joshua Krzikalla, the Pioneers struggled to find rhythm offensively.. George Mason extended its lead behind strong play from Weltin and Evangelista, cruising to a 25–15 win.
The third set followed a similar pattern, with Sacred Heart keeping things close early before George Mason used a decisive mid-set run to pull away. Kills from Mandic, Jaron Popp, and Johnson helped keep the Pioneers within striking distance, but a surge from the Patriots—highlighted by multiple service aces —created a gap Sacred Heart couldn't overcome. George Mason closed out the match with a 25–16 set victory to complete the sweep.
Of Note:
-
Flynn had a team-high 7 kills.
