Campion and Heath combined to allow just two hits
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University softball team held Fairfield to just two hits on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Park, but the Stags came out on top in the game by a 1-0 final score in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.

How It Happened:
Today's game was dominated by the pitching staffs as the two teams combined for three hits. The Stags got both of their hits in the fifth inning, scoring the game's lone run in the frame after a single and a double.
SHU had chances to break onto the scoreboard, putting runners on base in the first four innings. The Pios even loaded the bases in the second after a pair of walks and an error, but Fairfield worked out of the jam to keep Sacred Heart scoreless.
The Pios had another good chance in the bottom of the sixth, as Ella Stoops tallied SHU's first hit of the day to put runners on first and second with two outs. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, Fairfield was again ready for the challenge, getting the third out to stop SHU's final chance of the game.
The pitching duo of Emily Campion and Emily Heath were outstanding, combining to allow just two hits. Campion started and went 5.0 innings, giving up both Fairfield hits and the one run. Heath got the final six outs and allowed just one base runner.
