Driscoll Inks Pro Deal with Idaho Steelheads

The senior marks SHU's sixth professional signing of the offseason
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – John Driscoll, a 2025-26 alternate captain for the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team, signed his first professional contract with the Idaho Steelheads, ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars, as announced by the team on Tuesday afternoon.
Driscoll, a staple on the SHU defense in his two seasons with the team, appeared in 79 games with the Pioneers, collecting six goals and 15 assists for 21 career points. The Littleton, Colo., native totaled 54 career points (13G, 41A) between his stints at SHU and Army West Point. Driscoll also finished 12th in the country last season with a team-high 73 blocks.
Driscoll was at the center of one of the most successful runs in program history. The Pioneers won 44 games over the last two seasons, including a program-best 23 last year. SHU also made the Atlantic Hockey America semifinals in both seasons, making the team's third-ever AHA Championship Game in 2025-26.
Driscoll becomes the sixth Pioneer to pen a professional contract this offseason, joining Felix Trudeau, Mikey Adamson, Marcus Joughin, Reid Pabich, Noah Ellis and Ray Fust. Trudeau signed with the St. Louis Blues in the NHL, while Joughin, Pabich and Ellis all went to the ECHL. Fust signed with his hometown team the Lausanne Hockey Club in Switzerland.
The Pioneers are on the precipice of starting the 2026-27 season, as the year starts with the Ice Breaker Tournament at the Martire Family Arena. The start of the college hockey season will begin on Friday, Oct. 9, with a 7 p.m. tilt against Bowling Green.
