Kelleher shines

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team continued its perfect start to the 2026 season on Sunday afternoon, taking down Hofstra, 2-0, at Park Avenue Field.

How it Happened:
The Pride came out applying pressure early, earning a corner kick in the opening minute before recording the first shot of the afternoon in the fifth minute. Sacred Heart quickly responded, with Kelleher getting her first opportunity less than a minute later.

Hofstra continued to generate chances through the opening portion of the half, but goalkeeper, Thievon and the Sacred Heart defense kept the Pride off the board. Thievon came up with her first save of the afternoon in the 20th minute.

The breakthrough finally came in the 39th minute. After a Hofstra foul inside the box, Kelleher stepped up to the penalty spot and converted the opportunity to put Sacred Heart ahead, 1-0.
Kelleher was not finished. With just 26 seconds remaining before halftime, Riehl found Kelleher, who buried her second goal of the afternoon to double the Pioneers' lead. The late strike sent Sacred Heart into the break holding a 2-0 lead.

The Pioneers continued to push forward in the second half while protecting their two-goal advantage. Thievon made another stop in the 58th minute before Casey Mulligan entered in goal in the 63rd minute.

The Sacred Heart defense took care of the rest, keeping the Pride off the scoreboard through the final whistle to secure the 2-0 victory and preserve the Pioneers' undefeated start.

The Pioneers will be back in action next weekend as they will travel up to Buffalo for a 2025 conference championship game rematch against Canisius. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, September 5 at 1:00 PM.
