
Volleyball Drops Weekend Finale at Black Knight Invitational to Iowa

West Point, N.Y. – With a close battle throughout the morning match, the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team dropped its weekend finale at the Black Knight Invitational in three sets to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Leading the Pios in the match was the combination of senior right-side Lauren Hubert and sophomore outsider hitter Abbie Hagedorn who finished with 12 and 13 kills respectively. Of the pair, Hagedorn led the way with a .300 attack percentage with her 13 kills coming on 30 attempts with four errors.
Hubert also completed her second-straight double double, finishing with a team-high 13 digs while junior libero Miliani Villarreal followed with 11 and Hagedorn added eight. Sophomore transfer setter Addy Franz finished with 22 assists, while Villarreal chipped in five.

How it Happened
Despite a seesaw set that included nine ties and four lead changes, the Hawkeyes took the early advantage in the match with a 25-20 decision in the opening set. They would match that score in set two even though the Pioneers saw their best hitting of the match with 11 kills in 27 attempts with five errors for a .222 average. The Hawkeyes would then secure the sweep with a 25-19 final in the third set.

Sacred Heart will make its debut at the William H. Pitt Center when they next take the court hosting the Sacred Heart Invitational on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5. A trio of teams will make the trip to Fairfield including Binghamton, Central Connecticut and Le Moyne. The Pios will kick off the two-day event on Friday at 6:00 p.m. against the Le Moyne Dolphins.
