Pios Sweep Le Moyne to Open Weekend Action at the Sacred Heart Invite

Fairfield, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's volleyball team opened up its home schedule and the first day of the Sacred Heart Invitational with an impressive sweep of the Le Moyne Dolphins behind scored of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-15.
Leading the Pios on the evening was the outside hitting combination of Lauren Hubert and Abbie Hagedorn who each finished with 10 kills. Sophomore transfer setter was a force to be reckoned with as she collected seven kills on eight attempts while dishing out 26 assists and leading the Pioneers to a .435 attack percentage across the three sets.
SHU also capitalized at the service line where they combined for 15 total aces, opening up the night with eight alone in the first set. Leading the way was Hagedorn who finished with six while Renata Montini and Villarreal each finished with four.

How it Happened
The Pioneers opened up the match scoring the first eight points of the night without looking back. Sacred Heart would continue on in the set, never allowing the Dolphins to side out on the first serve, putting together streaks of three, four and five and another seven point rally late to extend to a 24-7 lead before closing it out.
Sacred Heart saw its best hitting come in that opening set as it combined for 10 kills on 16 attempts with a single error for a .562 attack percentage. Leading the way was Hubert and Hagedorn who each finished with three kills, while five players total got in on the hitting action. Serving was also a hot topic in the opening set as the Pios racked up eight aces, led by four from Hagedorn.
After keeping it close to open up the third, the Pios used a four-point rally midway through to extend their advantage out to five, 13-8. Another four point rally would follow, extending the lead to 17-10 before Hagedorn gave her team a 2-0 lead in the match with her fourth kill of the evening.
The third set would begin much the same as the second until midway through Renata Montini went on a serving tear where she racked up six-straight points, four of which came on service aces while Franz added a hammer thanks to the pass from Villarreal.
Franz would cap off the night with another kill, this time dumping it over the middle to secure the 25-15 victory and the sweep of the Dolphins.

The Pioneers will continue the Sacred Heart Invitational with a pair of matches on Saturday, opening up the day's action with a noon first serve against Binghamton before hosting in-state rival Central Connecticut to close out the day. First serve in the final match is set for 6:00 p.m. and all three matches of the day will be carried live on ESPN+.
