
Another West Coast Win as Volleyball Takes Down Host Cal Baptist

Riverside, Calif. – Senior right side Lauren Hubert stepped back up to the plate to close out The Joust hosted by Cal Baptist, combining for 29 kills as the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team split a pair of matches falling in five to North Dakota and defeating the host Lancers in four.
Hubert closed out the day's action with double figures in both matches and combined to hit .216 with her 29 kills coming on 74 attempts with 13 errors. She also added 26 digs on the day. Just like last weekend's home tournament, success at the service line helped lead the Pioneers on the day as they combined for 21 aces, including 14 in the win over Cal Baptist. Leading the way, among six players with at least a pair of aces, was sophomore outside Abbie Hagedorn who finished with nine aces to go along with 19 kills and 17 digs.

How it Happened – Match One vs North Dakota
For the second-straight match it would take five sets to determine a winner in the Pioneers California adventure, this time around with the Pios forcing the fifth set thanks to 25-12 decision in the fourth set. Leading the way as the only Pioneer in double figures was Hubert who finished with 14 kills while nine total players recorded at least one.
Sacred Heart would win the second and fourth sets in the match before falling in the fifth set 15-9 after the back-and-forth battle went through four times and three lead changes with the Fighting Hawks pulling away late after leading by just one at 9-8.
How it Happened – Match Two vs Cal Baptist
The Pioneers broke out to an early 2-0 lead in the match with 25-19 and 25-21 victories before switching sides. Cal Baptist would respond by storming out to an early lead in the third, earning a 25-14 victory before forcing extra points before Sacred Heart closed out the victory with a 27-25 decision in set four.
Service aces was the name of the game for SHU in its second match of the day as the Pios combined for 14 total, including the match-winning point on a ace from Villarreal. Offensively, senior right side Lauren Hubert led the way with 15 kills while sophomore Abbie Hagedorn followed with 10. Defensively, Kayla Jones was among the stories as she finished with seven of the Pioneers eight blocks against the Lancers.
