Parodo scores her first career goal

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team battled hard but fell on the road to Yale, 2-1, on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened:
The game started off slow on a windy and rainy afternoon, as neither team was able to generate much offensively. Through the opening 20 minutes, the match remained scoreless with neither side recording a shot.

In the 24th minute, the Pioneers generated their best opportunity of the match to that point. Kelleher got on the end of a ball with a header, but her attempt was unsuccessful as the game remained scoreless.

Yale responded with its best opportunity in the 29th minute, firing a shot from just outside the box. Thievon was there to secure the attempt, recording her first save of the match.
In the 35th minute, the Bulldogs continued to generate opportunities, earning back-to-back corner kicks. However, the Pioneers' defense stood strong, shutting down both chances to keep the match scoreless.

For the remainder of the half, Thievon and the Pioneer defense stood tall, allowing the game to remain scoreless heading into the half.

Mulligan took over in net for Thievon to begin the second half.

In the 53rd minute, the Bulldogs broke through, finding the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Just minutes later, Yale threatened again with another quality opportunity, but Mulligan came up with a strong save, punching the ball over the net, to keep the Pioneers' deficit at one.

In the 59^th minute, the Bulldogs struck again. This time, on a free kick opportunity, to increase Sacred Heart's deficit to two.

As the second half continued, the Pioneers began to generate a few offensive opportunities but were unable to capitalize.

That changed in the 77th minute when Parodo found the back of the net to get Sacred Heart on the board. The goal cut the deficit in half, giving the Pioneers new life with just 13 minutes remaining.

The Pioneers continued to push forward over the final 13 minutes, looking to generate more offensive opportunities. Despite the late pressure, Sacred Heart was unable to find the equalizer before the final whistle.

Of Note:
Parodo scored her first goal of her collegiate career
Roeder tallied her first assist of the season, and the second of her career.

The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday, returning to Park Ave Field for a Metro Conference matchup against Saint Peter's. Kickoff is scheduled for September 23^rd at 7:00 PM.
