Zeberio earns the Pioneers' first conference award of the 2026 season
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fifth year defender Axier Zeberio of the Sacred Heart University men's soccer team was named this week's Metro Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Zeberio played a key role for the Pioneers across two games this week, helping Sacred Heart earn a 2-0 shutout victory over LIU before facing Vermont on Saturday. In the win over the Sharks, Zeberio opened his scoring account with two goals, including the game-winner.

The fifth year defender continued to make an impact against Vermont, playing 59 minutes and putting one of his two total shots on target.
Zeberio finished the week with two goals, three shots and three shots on goal while totaling 118 minutes across the two contests. His two-goal performance against LIU marked the first multi-goal game of his SHU career and helped secure the Pioneers' first victory of the season.
The honor marks Sacred Heart's first weekly conference award of the 2026 season.
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, September 9, when they travel to Storrs, Conn., to take on UConn.
