Tyler Kavanaugh

Tyler Kavanaugh enters his third season with the SHU baseballprogram. He will be responsible for working with the Pioneers'hitters, catchers, and outfielders, coaching third base on gamedays, and assisting Coach Giaquinto with the day-to-day operationsof the program. Kavanaugh also oversees the recruitment of studentathletes for the Pioneer program.

Since his arrival on campus, the Pioneers have won back to back(2011 & 2012) NEC Tournament Titles and advanced to the NCAARegional Tournament.  In 2011, Pioneers hitters led theconference with a .308 batting average, good for 20th inthe country. The 2011 team also set the school wins record with 34victories. During Kavanaugh’s tenure, nine Pioneers haveearned All-NEC Baseball accolades and three have been named NewEngland Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division IAll-Stars.

Kavanaugh came to Sacred Heart from DeSales University (PA),were he served as the top assistant for two years under Coach TimNeiman. Kavanaugh's duties included working with the hitters andcatchers, coaching 3rd base on game day, and running therecruiting efforts. While at Desales, Coach Kavanaugh saw elevenplayers named All-Conference and four players were awardedAll-Region honors, including the Pitcher and Newcomer of the yearin 2010. That same year, DeSales posted a .358 team batting averageand were regular season Freedom Conference champions.

Prior to DeSales, he was the top assistant at Purchase College(NY) for two years, where he assisted Coach Bill Guerrero in allfacets of the Panther baseball program. Kavanaugh has also gainedvaluable coaching experience while working with the prestigiousTeam Connecticut Blue Jays travel program.

Kavanaugh graduated with a Bachelor's in History from KenyonCollege in Ohio in 2006, where we was a four-year starting catcher.He was named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference team threeyears and served two seasons as team captain. His senior season, hehelped lead Kenyon to a school-record 27 wins and the Lords'first-ever NCAC Tournament appearance.

Kavanaugh resides in Brooklyn, NY with his wife and son.
