Colgate sophomore goaltender Steve Silverthorn made a sprawling save on a penalty shot with
24 seconds remaining in the third period to give Colgate University a 3-2 ice hockey victory
over Sacred Heart University Friday night.
Sophomore Dmitry Yashin scored the game's first goal with a hard slap shot to the stick side
of SHU's senior goalie Eddy Ferhi. Chuck Metcalfe would notch the Pioneer's first goal later
that period to tie the score at 1-1.
Colgate sophomore Adam Mitchell scored a power play goal just 1:04 into the second period to
give the Raiders their second lead of the game.
Pioneer freshman Brad Holland would tie the game twelve minutes later when he chipped a rebound
from Barclay Folk's shot into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.
Junior Paul Kelley's shorthanded goal at the 14:48 mark of the second period gave the Raiders
the lead back for good.
Ferhi would finish with 37 saves in the losing effort for Sacred Heart. Colgate goalie Steve
Silverthorn, the game's first star, finished the night with 31 saves, a career high.
