Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Union in Friendship Four Opener

Bryant scored his fourth goal of the season

BELFAST, Northern Ireland – The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team suffered an 8-1 setback to No. 20/RV Union on Friday afternoon in the opening game of the 2025 Friendship Four, hosted by the Belfast Giants at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

SHU: 6-6-1
Union (NY): (9-3-2)

How It Happened:
The Pioneers started today's game off with a bang, as Gavin Bryant potted the first goal of the tournament 7:13 into the opening period. With the puck frozen on the boards behind the goal, Ethan Wolthers sent a pass to Bryant, who gathered before going backhand to beat the opposing goalie glove side.

Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the game was all Union after the first goal, as the Garnet Chargers scored eight unanswered. Union tallied three goals in the first and second periods and two in the third to seal an 8-1 victory.

In goal, Ajeet Gundarah got the start and made 18 saves in 39:59, while Teagan Kendrick played the third and made six saves.

Notes:
  • The Pioneers saw their three-game win streak come to a close.
  • Bryant scored his fourth goal of the season.
  • With four goals, Bryant is second on the team in scoring.
  • With his assist, Wolthers has tallied a point in back-to-back games and is up to four this season.
