Men’s Ice Hockey Claims Shootout Win Over Army

Trudeau scored twice in the third to tie the game

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team secured two Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) points with a thrilling shootout win over Army in the weekend opener at the Martire Family Arena. The Pioneers and Black Knights skated to a 3-3 overtime draw, with Felix Trudeau leading the way once again with two goals.

Records:
SHU: 7-6-2, 4-3-2 AHA
Army: 4-8-4, 1-8-3 AHA

How It Happened:
The Pioneers wasted no time getting on the board, taking a 1-0 lead just 3:55 into the game. The goal came off a sustained offensive push, as a John Driscoll shot created a rebound that Reid Pabich buried five-hole at the crease.

Army swung the momentum late in the first period, tying the game with four seconds remaining. The Black Knights then went ahead 2-1 at 5:24 of the second following another fortunate bounce—one coming off a clean carom and the other trickling past SHU goaltender Teagan Kendrick.

Sacred Heart responded quickly in the third, tying the game just 3:00 into the frame. Trudeau netted his first of the night on a smooth finish off a beautiful outlet pass from Pabich.

Army reclaimed the lead only 22 seconds later, putting SHU back on the hunt for another equalizer. As he has all season, Trudeau delivered. On the power play, the senior from Terrebonne, Quebec, ripped a shot into the bottom-right corner from the right dot after crisp passing from Marcus Joughin and Mikey Adamson, knotting the score at 3-3 with 12:55 remaining.

Both teams traded chances the rest of the way as the game moved into overtime. The five-minute extra frame featured quality opportunities on both sides, including a dangerous rush from Gavin Bryant that saw a shot deflect off Jacob Biron's leg.

With no winner after overtime, SHU entered its second shootout of the season. Joughin opened the shootout with a five-hole tally, while Army missed its first attempt. After both second-round shooters were stopped, Bryant sealed it with a wrister to the top stick-side corner, giving SHU a 2-0 shootout win.

Kendrick was stellar in his second career start, making 40 saves. He made a big save in the second round of the shootout to set up the Pios for a victory.
