SOTRRS, CT (November 16, 2002) - The Sacred Heart men's ice
hockey team was defeated by UConn, 3-1, after beating them 6-3 the
night before. SHU's lone goal was scored by senior Martin Paquet (St.
Catherine, QUE) from freshman Rocco Molinaro
(Dearborn, MI).
Paquet's goal opened the scoring after a scoreless first period
at 2:58 in the second. The Pioneers were ahead 1-0 going into the
third.
The third period scoring was all Uconn, as they scored three
unanswered goals to take the game. D.J. Miller scored at 4:11 to
tie the game. Then Ron D'Angelo shot one by Pioneer goalie,
sophomore Kevin LaPointe
(Quebec City, QUE) at 9:05, which was the eventual game-winner.
Eric St. Arnauld scored the final goal of the game at 14:55.
LaPointe made 34 saves in net for SHU. UConn goalie Jason Carey
made 34 saves in the win.
The Pioneers return to action Friday, November 21, as they play
host to American International for a MAAC match-up at the Milford
Ice Pavilion at 7 pm.
