Trudeau's Hat Trick, Bryant’s Two Goals Spark Pios to 6-1 Win over Canisius

Trudeau’s hatty is the first of his collegiate career

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Felix Trudeau's first career hat trick and Gavin Bryant's first two-goal game sparked the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team to a 6-1 home win over Canisius on Friday evening at the Martire Family Arena.

Records:
SHU: 4-5-1, 3-3-1 AHA
Canisius: 5-5-1, 1-3-1 AHA

How It Happened:
After a back-and-forth start to the first period, SHU's top line opened the game's scoring at 14:48. The scoring play was started when Stephane Huard used a powerful stick check to take a Griffs defender out of the play by sending his stick into the air. The puck then found its way to Mikey Adamson, who sent it back to Huard for a breakaway attempt. The senior wrapped around the goal, finding Trudeau in the left slot for an easy goal.

It didn't take the Pios long to double the lead, as Cole Galata made it 2-0 SHU at 3:45 in the second period. Ray Fust dumped the puck into the zone, where it ricocheted to a hustling Galata as he sent a backhanded shot across the extended goal line into an opposing stick and into the goal.

SHU was not done scoring in the second as Trudeau netted his second of the evening with a power play goal at 11:31. Midway through an extra-man opportunity, Reid Pabich brought the puck into the zone before finding Trudeau, who took a wrister in the slot that sniped the top-right corner.

Following a late second-period goal by the Griffs in the second, SHU answered 3:24 into the third to make it 4-1. On another power play, Trudeau put the finishing touches on his first career hat trick, scoring with a wrister from the right circle before sniping the stick-side corner.

Bryant capped a 6-1 SHU win with the last two goals of the game. Bryant's first goal came at 8:14 in the third after a Jake Bongo centering pass deflected off a Canisius skater's skate to Bryant for a glove-side score. The first year scored again in the final minute, deking a defender before going backhand from the right slot.

Ajeet Gundarah was nearly perfect between the pipes for SHU, making 24 saves on 25 shots on goal. Gundarah was a key reason the Pios went 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
