MEN'S ICE HOCKEY TOPPED BY CANISIUS, 3-2 IN OVERTIME
BUFFALO, NY (November 3, 2002) - The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team was defeated by Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Canisius College by an overtime score of 3-2.
The scoring was opened by senior Lloyd Tennant (Billings, MT) at the 2:57 mark in the first period on a power play goal assisted by junior Chuck Metcalfe (Edmonton, AB) and senior Rich Naumann (Boerne, TX). Canisius came back later in that period on a power play tally by their captain Rob Martin. The Pioneers came back at the 3:05 mark in the second on a goal by Metcalfe, assisted by senior Nick Nutcher (Hamden, CT). Canisius Marc Bouffard scored the game-tying goal with just 2:21 remaining in the game.
Freshman Andrew Dawe lifted the puck over the left shoulder of senior goaltender Eddy Ferhi (Charenton, France) at the 3:31 mark of the overtime period to give the Canisius 3-2 victory.
Ferhi made 17 saves in net for the Pioneers. Canisius goalie Bryan Worosz made 19 saves.
The Pioneers return to action in their home opener as they play host to the Black Knights of Army at the Milford Ice Pavilion on November 8 at 7 pm.
