Sacred Heart and the University of Albany will take to the hardwood in the friendly confines of the William H. Pitt Center as the Pioneers tip-off the home portion of their schedule this afternoon. Since the building opened in 1997, Sacred Heart holds a 49-12 (.803) overall record. SHU is coming off a 75-70 win at Lafayette Tuesday night which saw senior Brooke Kelly score the 1,000-point of her career. Kelly finished with a game-high 21 points in becoming just the ninth member of the Pioneer 1,000-point club. Sophomore Colleen Duggan put together the best game of her young collegiate career, netting career highs in points (10), rebounds (8), and blocks (7). Her seven blocks ties a school record set by senior Brooke Rutnik against Mt. St. Mary's last season. Junior Kate Maher tied her career-high for points, netting 16 while grabbing eight rebounds in the win. SHU led 39-23 at the half, shooting 54.8%, and led by as many as 19 in the second half, but were forced to hold on as Lafayette outscored the Pioneers 34-20 over the last 13 minutes to make it a game. Albany enters today's contest on the heels of a 88-76 win over Yale University Tuesday evening giving first-year head coach Trina Patterson her inaugural victory as the Great Dane mentor. Senior guard Jess McGinlay scored a game-high 27 points, two off her career high, to lead her team to the win.
