MILFORD, CT (February 8, 2003) - The Sacred Heart men's ice
hockey team lost to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent
Canisius, 3-1 at home. Freshman Peter Giatrelis
(Hamden, CT) scored the lone Pioneer goal at 15:12 in the second
period.
Giatrelis opened the scoring with assists going to senior Les Hrapchak
(Wakaw, SK) and sophomore Garrett Larson
(Rycroft, AB). Nine seconds later the Griffs tied up the score with
a goal by Jeff Street.
Street put the Griffs ahead with a power play tally at 1:57 in
the third period, assisted by Todd Bowler and Jon Durno. The Griffs
closed out the scoring at 19:48 when Ryan Corcoran tallied an empty
net goal.
Sophomore goaltender Kevin LaPointe
(Quebec City, QUE) made 34 saves. Canisius goaltender Bryan Worosz
earned the win, making 23 saves. Griffin Jeremy Redquest came into
the game with 12 seconds left and faced no shots.
The Pioneers return to action February 15th, as they travel to
Erie, PA to take on the Lakers of Mercyhurst at 7 pm.
