MILFORD, CT - The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team
fell to Quinnipiac 5-2 on Tuesday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion on
Senior Night. The Pioneers tried to rally late, but were unable to
overcome a four goal third period deficit.
After a scoreless opening period Rob Hammell netted a pair of
goals for the Bobcats in the second period, giving them a 2-0 lead
heading into the third period.
Chris White scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 3:57
of the final period and Ryan Morton added a power play goal at the
13:11 mark, giving QU a 4-0 lead.
The Pioneers tried to make a comeback on power play goals from
sophomore Rocco Molinaro (Dearborn,
MI) at 14:47 and junior Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB) at
17:20 of the third period, but it wasn't meant to be.
The Bobcats ended up on the power play in the closing minutes of
play and added an empty net goal on the power play from Morton to
make it a 5-2 game with 15-seconds remaining.
Quinnipiac goaltender Jamie Holden made 45 saves in recording
his tenth win of the season while junior Kevin LaPointe (Quebec,
QC) made 16 saves in taking the loss.
SHU will return to action with their final game of the regular season
on Saturday night when they travel to American International for a
7:00 pm game at the Olympia in West Springfield, MA.
