Pioneer Field Hockey Tops Robert Morris on Senior Day

Oct. 16, 2005

Final Stats

Fairfield, CT - Sophomore Katie Bohren (Hopwell Junction, NY) scored a goal and added an assist as the Pioneer field hockey team beat Robert Morris 3-0 Sunday on Senior Day at Campus Field.

After a scoreless first half, where both teams seemed a bit sluggish, the Pioneers got on the board ten minutes into the second half when junior SarahYeaton (Hampton, NH) scored in the culmination of a flurry created by Sacred Heart penalty corner. Yeaton took a pass from junior Jenna McLane (Stowe, VT) and shot it past Colonial goaltender Kate Dunlap for her first goal of the season.

Once they got the lead, the Pioneers really turned the pressure on, holding the Colonials without a shot the entire second half. Bohren scored her third goal of the year in the 66th minute when she cleaned up a rebound off a shot from junior Becky Ford (Salem, NH). Just seconds later, Bohren would set up sophomore Danielle Vasely (Hopewell Junction, NY) for her first goal of the season and the game clincher for the Pioneers.

Sacred Heart dominated the entire game offensively, outshooting the Colonials 21-3, including 15-0 in the second half. The Pioneers controlled the play so well that junior goaltender Ashley Del Greco (Merrimack, NH) only needed to make one save to notch her fourth shutout of the season. Dunlap made nine saves in goal for the Colonials to try to keep the game close.

Before the game, the Pioneers honored their two graduating players, Nicole Falco (Ocean City, NJ) and Erika Francisco (Newton Square, PA). The two seniors have been a member of three straight Northeast Conference tournament teams and last summer, led their team to a gold medal at the Eastern University Games in Australia.

The Pioneers, now 7-9 overall and 5-2 in the NEC, are right back in action tomorrow, hosting Seton Hill University. Game time at Campus Field is 3:30 pm.
