Milford, CT - Senior Lindsay Parsons scored with 23 seconds left in regulation as the Neumann Knights rallied for a 3-3 tie with the Sacred Heart Pioneers in women's ice hockey Saturday afternoon at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
Parsons scored after Jenelle Marier fed her a pass in the slot and Parsons let a flutter shot go that found its way past Pioneer goaltender Stephanie Boulay (Anchorage, AK).
Sophomore Katelin McLaughlin (Hingham, MA) put the Pioneers on the board first when she poked a shorthanded shot past Knights goaltender Lauren Voran with six seconds to go in the first period. After Voran stopped Michelle Panella's (Marlboro, NJ) initial shot, McLaughlin was there to slip the puck through her pads for her third goal of the season.
Freshman Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) gave the Pioneers a two goal lead seven minutes into the second period. After taking a pass from defenseman Jane Auxier (Palm Beach, FL) out of the corner, Auxier flipped a shot past Voran for her fifth goal of the year. Freshman Kristina Feltz (Edison, NJ) also had an assist.
Carolyn Fauteux scored a shorthanded goal halfway through the second period to put the Knights on the board.
With 8 minutes to go in the second Panella scored her team leading seventh goal off a pass from Arnone. However, the Knights would answer back just 30 seconds later as Robyn Armstrong took a pass from Parsons and fired it past Boulay to pull the Knights within one. After Parsons tied it, neither team had a good scoring opportunity in the extra session.
Boulay made 32 saves for the Pioneers while Voran kept her team in it with 37 saves.
The Pioneers (1-6-2) are back in action Tuesday night when the travel to Worcester, MA to face Holy Cross. Game time is 7:00 pm.
