Final Stats
Fairfield, CT -
Junior Jenna McLane (Stowe, VT/Stowe) scored 1:32 into the second overtime as the Sacred Heart field hockey team beat Lehigh 2-1 in double overtime at Campus Field Saturday. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 3-7, having won three straight games.
McLane's goal came on a flurry following a Sacred Heart penalty corner. After senior Nicole Falco (Ocean, NJ/Ocean Township) sent the ball into McLane, McLane and junior Colleen Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland) exchanged passes before McLane finally blasted a shot past Mountain Hawks goaltender Meghan Gove for the game winner.
The Pioneers got on the board first after Lehigh was called for a push in the goal crease 21 minutes into the game. Carney would convert the ensuing penalty stroke into a 1-0 Pioneer lead.
The Mountain Hawks would tie the game less then four minutes later when Melissa Fricke fired a shot past Pioneer goaltender Ashley Del Greco.
The teams each exchanged flurries of momentum in the second half and first overtime but both goaltenders stood tough against the pressure.
Del Greco made 14 saves for the Pioneers while Gove stopped 13 shots for the Mountain Hawks.
The Pioneers are right back in action Sunday afternoon, hosting a Northeast Conference game against Siena. Game time at Campus Field is set for 1:00 pm.
