Oct. 19, 2008

Box Score

Fairfield, CT- Suzann Hobart notched 4 goals and an assist for the Lady Eagles as Lock Haven defeated SHU this afternoon 5-1. The Pioneer defense faced heavy pressure all game but finally broke down midway through the second half, surrendering 3 goals in the final 18 minutes. Whitney Mills (Harrisburg, PA) made 8 saves for the Pioneers and Carisa Eye (Nesconset, NY) scored Sacred Heart's only goal.

Despite several promising Pioneer counter attacks, the first half was dominated by the Lock Haven offense. Lock Haven (14-3, 4-0 NEC) finally broke through on Hobart's first tally of the match that found the goal after a lengthy scrum in front of the Pioneer net. Sacred Heart (5-11, 3-2 NEC) managed to keep the Lady Eagles off the scoreboard for the rest of the half.

Kristi Schepps added a tally for Lock Haven 9 minutes into the second period, making it a 2-0 affair. Hobart then found the net twice in five minutes, the first from a penalty corner. Her third goal of the match was a beautiful one timer off of a crossing pass from Amy Hordendorf.

Eye put the Pioneers on the board with under 10 minutes to play bringing the tally to 4-1. Dana Luhrs (Milford, PA) earned the assist on Eye's 18th goal of the season. Only 41 seconds later Hobart immediately ended any thought of a Pioneer comeback, notching her fourth goal of the match.

The regular season is coming to a close and the Pioneers final two matches will be pivotal for SHU to earn an NEC tournament berth. Sacred Heart travels to Loretto, PA to take on Saint Francis next Sunday. The Pioneers close out the regular season at home October 30th at 3:00 pm as they take on rival Quinnipiac.
