
Women's Tennis Claims 6-1 Victory Over Siena

Loudonville, NY - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team won five of six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches en route to posting a 6-1 victory over Siena Thursday afternoon. Sophomores Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) and Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) and freshman Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) all won two matches for the Pioneers.
After losing the number one doubles match, the Pioneers took the next two contests to win the doubles point. Kasinow and Amalfe teamed up to win the number two doubles, 8-6, and Harrington and Britany Price (Meriden, CT) combined to take the third doubles match and win the piont for SHU.
Siena won the number one singles match but the Pioneers then took straight set decisions in the other five to claim the match. Kasinow won 6-1, 7-5 at number two singles in the most closely contested singles match. Harrington took her match in the third slot, 6-2, 6-0, while Amalfe won at number six, 6-2, 6-0. In between Jessica Schnell (Schnectady, NY) posted a 6-2, 6-2 win in the number four position while Mandy Finkelstein (Portland, CT) won the fifth singles match, 6-4, 6-1.
The Pioneers will host Hartford Friday at 1:30 pm, visit Quinnipiac Sunday at 1:00 pm, and entertain Rhode Island Monday at 3:00 pm to close out the regular season. The NEC tournament will be held April 18-19 at Mercer County Tennis Center.
