Lawrenceville, NJ-The Sacred Heart wrestling team was unable to earn a three match win streak as they fell to the Rider Broncos 27-9 Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers got wins from Chris Davis (Mohawk, NY), Cory Dunn (Rutherford, NJ), and Anthony Priore (Garwood, NJ) but SHU could not find a win and dropped to 7-10 and 0-6 in the CAA this season.
The Pioneers jumped out to a quick 9-0 advantage as Davis, Dunn, and Priore won the opening three bouts of the meet, all by decision. Dunn defeated Rider's Jimmy Kirchner 12-6 as the match started at 133 pounds. Davis recorded a nail biting 3-2 victory over Fred Rogers to keep the Pioneers hot early. Priore kept things rolling in an 8-3 triumph over Aaorn Nester.
Rider (7-7, 4-2 CAA) won the next seven matches to cruise to a 27-9 victory on senior day in Lawrenceville, NJ. William Beiermeister (Boonton, NJ) almost pulled an upset but fell in overtime to 29th ranked in the country Ed Bordas.
Sacred Heart will gear up and return to action at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships to be held March 6-7 in Virginia Beach, VA.
