Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University men's soccer
team improved to 4-0 on the season after pulling off a 2-1 overtime
victory at Adelphi, Saturday evening. Sophomore forward Brian
Francolini (Ellington, Conn.) notched his first goal of the
season in the 96th minute to give the Pioneers the victory.
The loss evened the Panthers record at 2-2 for the year.
Sophomore defender Marcello
Castro (Panana, Brazil) got SHU on the board first with his
third goal of the season, in the 32nd minute. The goal came
on a free kick that Castro struck under the Adelphi wall and into
the back of the net.
The game was very physical from start to finish. In the 34th
minute, a scuffle broke out between the two teams, that was
instantly mediated by the referee. Adelphi sophomore
midfielder Domenico Parreli was the only player booked with a
yellow card for the incident.
The Panthers answered before the end of the half when senior
midfielder Alexander Kouznetsov scored on a free kick to tie the
game at one, three minutes before the break.
Junior goalkeeper Alex Fait
(Ottawa, Ont.) made six saves, while giving up one goal, to earn
the victory for Sacred Heart. In net for AU, senior keeper
Thorner Holde stopped two shots in the loss.
Adelphi held a 15-10 advantage in shots for the game and 8-1 in
corner kicks.
The Pioneers return to action when they head to Providence for a
7:00 pm contest.
