(Philadelphia, PA) - The Pioneers traveled to Temple on Sunday for the 2011 Philadelphia Invitational. The team defeated NJIT 18-9, but lost to Duke 26-1, Northwestern 25-2, Cornell 21-6, Temple 22-5, and UPenn 19-8.
Sacred Heart was led on the day by sophomore epeeist Colleen Mason (Waterford, CT), who went 9-8 on the day, including a 3-0 sweep against Cornell. Freshman Natalie Rossetti (Guilford, CT) posted eight victories on the day in foil and sophomore Lauren Cebello (Clinton, NJ) had six wins in saber, including a 3-0 sweep against the UPenn Quakers.
"Mason had a great day on Sunday", said head coach Dr. Thomas Vrabel. "This is the best day that she has had this year against this level of competition. The epee squad made a lot of progress at Temple and I look for them to be very solid at Wellesley for the conclusion of our Northeast Fencing Conference schedule."
The Pioneers are back inaction this Saturday for a noon match against Yale at the Paine-Whitney Athletic Complex in New Haven.
