
Gaberkorn Finishes 4-2 In Pioneers Tri-Meet at NYU

New York, N.Y. – Senior Epeeist Nadia Gaberkorn closed out a tri-meet with New York University and Columbia University with a 4-2 record, earning a pair of victories in each of the matches. As a team, the Pioneers dropped both bouts by scores of 23-4 and 17-4, respectively.
In the opening match of the evening against Columbia, Gaberkorn dropped her opening bout before rebounding for back-to-back 5-4 wins against the Lions Sofia Gaydos and Hannah Lee. The senior maintained that momentum into the second match of the day against the host Bobcats again earning her two victories by back-to-back 5-4 decisions against Nina Prihodko and Hiba Hafeez.
The remaining two points in the opening match against Columbia came in Sabre where sophomore Jess Murphy took two-of-three of her bouts against the Lions with a 5-0 win over Pilar Maldonado and a 5-2 decision against Alanna Xue. Against the host Bobcats, Nicole Dioh and Ines Benadouda each picked up one point for the Pioneers in Epee and Foil, respectively.
The SHU women's fencing team returns to action with the rescheduled NFC Championships scheduled for Saturday, February 28 which will now be hosted by Boston College.
