(Fairfield, CT) – The Sacred Heart University Men's Soccer team battled the Yale Bulldogs to a 1-1 tie through a rainy and cold night at Campus Field Wednesday night.
Yale opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, just as the mist began to fall harder on a dreary fall evening. Jenner Fox sent a cross from 30 yards out on a free kick to the right for a header by Peter Jacobson to give the Bulldogs the upper hand.
The Pioneers had a good chance earlier on a penalty kick by Omer Levy (Yahud, Israel), but Yale goalkeeper Bobby Thalman read his right-side drive well and leapt to make a diving save in the 22nd minute.
Levy got his revenge for the Pioneers, tying it in the 50th minute. He was sent streaking down the left side on a smooth pass on the ground from Brian Francolini (Ellington, CT) for a shot inside the far post.
Alex Fait (Ottawa, ON) preserved the tie with a great save in the 60th minute on a Yale penalty kick, robbing Brad Rose of his big along the ground to the far post with a full-extension diving stop. With five minutes remaining, he made another diving stop on a header by Charlie Paris that bounced toward the right post. He finished with eight saves.
The third-place Pioneers host second-place CCSU Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
