Field Hockey Downed By Rutgers 5-0

(New Haven, CT) – The Sacred Heart Field Hockey team lost 5-0 Sunday afternoon to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Johnson Field at Yale University.
Alyssa Bull opened the scoring on a goal at 8:24 following a corner, set up by Danielle Freshnock. About five minutes later, Carlie Rough scored unassisted after driving up the field at 13:29. Katie Champion made it a 3-0 lead for Rutgers at 19:30, driving a shot under the crossbar and getting a friendly roll when it dropped over the goal line.
The Scarlet Knights added two more in the second half. Cornelia Duffin scored at 49:24, with Chelsea Rota getting the assist. Freshnock bookended the scoring at 64:32, knocking in a cross pass from Bull at 64:32.
Mary Altepeter (Chesterfield, MO) made seven saves against a Scarlet Knight attack that produced 23 shots, including 12 on goal.
The Pioneers are back in action on Friday, September 21 at 7:00 pm when they begin a four-game stretch of road games at Lehigh.
