SHU Softball Shutout by Stags 4-0

Box Score

Fairfield, Conn. (April 25, 2013)—Kacie Wentworth (Canton, N.Y.) and Courtney Machamer (Williamstown, Penn.) went 2-for-3 at the plate, accounting for four of the Pioneers' five runs, Thursday afternoon as the Sacred Heart Softball team was rendered scoreless by the cross-town rival Fairfield Stags. SHU falls to 22-24 with the 4-0 nothing.

Freshman Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) picked up the loss after four innings of work. The rookie gave up all four of Fairfield's run on seven hits while striking out six batters and walking two. Wentworth got the call to the circle to close out the game. The sophomore only allowed two runners to reach base over two innings, giving up one hit and one walk.

The Stags got their first run in the second inning. Lauren Filicia led off the inning with a single and was knocked in two batters later by Nikki Osofsky's single. They scored another run in the third in identical fashion, and tacked on two in the fifth inning thanks to back-to-back triples.

Sacred Heart welcomes Mount St. Mary's for a doubleheader Saturday when the Pioneers will be celebrating "Senior Day."
