The Huskies got on the board first in the second inning, scoring a couple runs off of Sacred Heart starting pitcher Nick Morrisey (Howell, NJ). A walk to Eric Yavaraone started the rally for UCONN, followed by a single from Bobby Melley and a hit by pitch to Max McDowell to load the bases with no one out. A Bryan Daniello sacrifice fly to center plated UCONN's first run, while a Vinny Siena sacrifice fly to right field would put UCONN up 2-0.

SHU would battle back in the fourth, scoring their first run to cut the Huskies' lead in half. Dan Perez (Seymour, CT) started the rally with a hit by pitch, while Jesus Medina (New York, NY) followed with a single through the left side. Freshman Jayson Sullivan (Charlton, NY) executed a sacrifice bunt to move Medina to second and Perez to third. A Rocco Gondek (Glastonbury, CT) ground out would score Perez from third, to make it 2-1 UCONN.

UCONN would strike right back in the bottom of the inning as McDowell hit a two run bomb off freshman Mike Lembo (North Haledon, NJ) to make it 4-1 UCONN. Melley would come around on the blast after leading off the inning with a double.

In the fifth inning, a RBI groundout by freshman second baseman Brian Lamboy (Manalapan, NJ), scoring sophomore Kenny Byram (Ponte Vedra, FL) would make it 4-2 Huskies. Byram led off the inning with a bunt base hit.

UCONN would stretch their lead in the sixth with a two run single up the middle by Siena to score McDowell and Daniello, making it 6-2 UCONN.

The Pioneers surged back against three UCONN pitchers in the seventh inning, tying the game up at six. Freshman Victor Sorrento (Monroe Township, NJ) started the comeback with a double to right center. Byram followed Sorrento with a single to right field, putting guys on first and third for the Pioneers with just one down. Sorrento would score SHU's third run on a Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY) fielder's choice. Flint went 3-5 on the afternoon with an RBI and a run scored. Lamboy would extend the inning with a single through the left side. John Murphy (Seymour, CT) followed Lamboy, smacking a double over the right center field wall to score Flint. After a walk to Derick Horn (Valatie, NY), Medina would knock in Murphy and Lamboy to tie the game up at six.

UCONN followed Sacred Heart's four run inning with a one of their own in the bottom of the seventh to put the Pioneers away for good. Center fielder Billy Ferriter would come around to score the Huskies' winning run on a double to left field by Yavarone. Ferritar led off the inning with a bunt base hit and advanced all the way to third on a sacrifice bunt and then a wild pitch. UCONN would score three more in the inning to put away the Pioneers for good.

Sacred Heart returns home this weekend when they face off against Fairleigh Dickinson for a four game series.
