Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team hosts Robert Morris on Thursday at 7 pm knowing that a win will clinch its first Northeast Conference Tournament birth since 2012.
NEC Standings... With a 6-8 conference record, the Pioneers hold a four game lead on the eighth and final postseason spot over Fairleigh Dickinson with four games to play. Robert Morris is currently tied with Bryant for second place with a 9-5 league record.
Series History... Robert Morris holds a commanding, 19-8, advantage in the all-time series between the two teams and is currently on a series-high six-game winning streak dating back to 2012. The Colonials have also won ten of the last eleven matchups. At home, RMU is especially dominant, winning 12 of the 14 meetings in Moon, including six straight. Robert Morris also won the first six ever played in Pennsylvania, before SHU won two straight in 2007 and 2008 ahead of the current streak. The away win in 2008 was the fourth straight over RMU for Sacred Heart dating back to 2006, which is the longest in the series for the Pioneers. The Pioneers have had much better success at the William H. Pitt Center, where they are one game under .500 at 6-7. The Colonials hold the edge as of late, winning three straight and five of the last six.
Last Meeting...Sacred Heart cut a 17 point second half lead to as little as six with 8:56 remaining, but Robert Morris closed the game on a, 22-8, run to pull away and win, 85-65, on January 18 at the Charles L.
