9/4/2015 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Freshman Murray Cockburn's (Edinburgh, Scotland) penalty kick goal in the 104th minute Friday night gave the Sacred Heart men's soccer team its first win of 2015, as the Pioneers beat the Yale Bulldogs 2-1 at Campus Field.
After a scoreless first half that saw Sacred Heart (1-1-1) outshoot Yale (0-1-0) 10-6, it was the Bulldogs that scored first. Kyle Kenagy headed in a cross from Dylan Onderdonk-Snow in the 58th minute to give Yale a 1-0 lead.
It took a little luck for the Pioneers to level the game. In the 73rd minute, a Yale defender mistakenly chested in a Sacred Heart cross for an own goal, giving the Pioneers their first goal of the season. After each team had one shot in the first overtime, Shaquille Saunchez (Kingston, Jamaica) drew a foul in the box with just over six minutes remaining in the second overtime to give Sacred Heart a penalty kick. Cockburn stepped up to the spot and roofed home the game-winner.
The Pioneers now travel to Army West Point for a 6 p.m. game on Monday, September 6.
