
SHU's Second Half Rally Comes Up Short At Army West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart men's soccer team scored twice in the second half against the Army West Point Black Knights Monday night at Clinton Field, but could not overcome a 3-0 halftime deficit in a 3-2 loss.
Army (1-3-0) led 2-0 after 20 minutes, as Shaban Abousaud and Christian Ollen both found the back of the net. In the 36th minute, Spencer Goldstein converted a penalty kick to give the Black Knights a 3-0 lead. After not having a shot in the first half, Sacred Heart (1-2-1) scored on its first shot of the second half. Murray Cockburn scored his second goal of the season in the 47th minute, knocking home a cross from Shaquille Saunchez. Later in the half, Saunchez played a cross to Dylan Santos who tucked the ball inside the right post to make the score 3-2 with seven minutes remaining.
The Pioneers take on another Patriot League opponent on Friday, September 11 at Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m.
FIRST HALF
- Army had two shots in the first five minutes, one of which was stopped by Tucker Hackett
- Sacred Heart did not have a shot in the first half, while Army had nine
SECOND HALF
- Cockburn put a shot over the crossbar in the 50th minute
- The Black Knights' Alex Jaroscak hit the crossbar in the 53rd minute
- Aaron Schwartz put a shot on goal in the 60th minute that was stopped by Army goalkeeper Chris Britt
- Hackett made back-to-back saves in the 76th and 77th minutes
- Cockburn had a chance to tie the game in the final minute, but Britt saved his shot
