Men's And Women's Fencing Posts Winning Records At Vassar Invitational
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart men's and women's fencing teams went a combined 11-5 Sunday at the Vassar Invitational, hosted by Vassar College.
The women's fencing team was 5-3 on the day. After opening the day 1-3 with a 22-5 win over Hunter, the Pioneers earned four straight wins over Fairleigh Dickinson 18-9, Yeshiva 24-3, CCNY 22-5, and Incarnate Word 22-5.
After opening the day with a close 14-13 loss to Haverford, the men's team rattled off four consecutive wins against Yeshiva 22-5, Army West Point 18-9, Lafayette 21-6, and Hunter 18-9. SHU also posted a 17-10 win over Drew and a 20-7 victory over Incarnate Word after a 14-13 defeat to Stevens Tech.
The Pioneers open Northeast Fencing Conference competition on Nov. 19 at MIT.
