HUMACAO, P.R. – The Sacred Heart women's tennis team ended its Spring Break trip with a sweep of Minnesota State on Thursday morning. The Pioneers did not drop a set en route to improving to 4-6 on the season.
Claudia Ruiz did not lose a game in her sixth singles match, while Taylor Gurda dropped just one and Olivia Podsiebierski fell in two in their respective matches at fourth and third singles. Ruiz and Podsiebierski also paired together earlier in the morning to blank their opponents at third doubles in what was their second straight win together, and Podsiebierski's team-leading 11th doubles victory.
Gurda teamed with Katie DeReinzo for a fourth consecutive win, a 6-1 victory at first doubles, as DeReinzo won both of her matches yet again to extend her winning streak across singles and doubles to seven. Tied with Podsiebierski with 11 doubles wins, her ten singles victories is also a team-high as she is a combined 15-2 in dual play.
Seniors Paige Olson and Lindsey Post completed the sweep and also paired for a 6-2 second doubles triumph. Olson becomes the third Pioneer currently with at least a .500 record in both singles and doubles play.
SHU returns to play in the States next Friday, March 18 at Providence, before opening Northeast Conference play at Fairleigh Dickinson two days later.
