OCEANSIDE, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart men's tennis team was defeated by the slimmest of margins in a decision that came down to the final match of the afternoon at Hofstra on Friday.

Karan Narula and his fourth singles opponent, Gustav Akesson, went back and forth, with Narula forcing a third set by winning the second 7-5 after getting edged 6-4 in the first. Akesson would ultimately come out on top though, again by a score of 6-4, snapping Narula's three-match winning streak and clinching the 4-3 Hofstra victory.

The loss was a second straight for SHU, who fall to 6-9 after nearly pulling off the victory over a now 7-2 Hofstra team.

Cory Seltman had just tied the match up at 3-3 after Hofstra had taken three of the first four singles matches, including Derek Chapman's three-set loss, 6-2, 2-6, 1-6, at third singles. The 7-5, 6-3 decision at sixth singles was Setlman's 11^th win of the season, tied for the team-lead with Mathieu Pilote-Schraenen, who also swept his opponent on Friday, 7-5, 6-0 at fifth singles for a 2-1 Pioneer lead. 

Sacred Heart opened up play by winning the doubles point, taking two of the three matches by identical 6-3 scores. At first doubles, Brian Power and Matt Dean were victorious for a team-best ninth time together, while Narula and Chapman clinched the point at third doubles. The victory was Chapman's 14^th in doubles play, good for best on the team.

Sacred Heart plays one more game on the road, on Monday at Quinnipiac, before hosting Fairfield for its spring home opener on Tuesday at 3 pm.
