LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Sacred Heart men's tennis team will head into this weekend's 2016 Northeast Championships with momentum, fresh off a 6-0 sweep of Rider on Thursday on afternoon. The blanking gives the Pioneers a 9-13 record to end the regular season. 

SHU controlled both doubles matches that went final, winning the first and second positions by scores of 6-2 and 6-3, respectively. Brian Power and Matt Dean end the regular season 13-12 together after the first doubles triumph, including 12-8 at spot number one, which is good for the third most wins in the conference. Also ending the year on a high was Mathieu Pilote-Schraenen and Cory Seltman, whose seven victories together are now third most on the team.

Singles play was much of the same, with just one match going the full three sets. After sweeping the first at first singles, Omar Abdo needed a third set tiebreaker to pick up his first career collegiate win as a Pioneer.

Seltman made quick work of his opponent, sweeping the fifth position match for his team-best 15^th victory of the season, which is tied for third most in the NEC. Likewise, Power made quick work of his competitor, moving into second in the league with his eighth first singles win, 6-0, 6-1 

Also moving into a tie for second in the conference with a sweep was Derek Chapman, whose triumph at the third spot was his sixth on the year. Rounding out the performance was Karan Narula's win at fourth singles.

Sacred Heart will stay in the Garden State for the NEC Championships, which are hosted by the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor. Play begins tomorrow with the quarterfinals, as the fourth seeded Pioneers take on fifth seeded Wagner at 9 am.
