Chelsea Sedlar Wins Individual Title, Pioneers Finish Second At NEC Women's Golf Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Sacred Heart women's golf team played its best round of the Northeast Conference Women's Golf Championship at LPGA International Sunday, but the Pioneers finished one stroke behind Fairleigh Dickinson for the team championship.
SHU had the lowest team score Sunday with a 15-over 311, and got off to a fast start by taking the lead on the front nine. The Pioneers led by as many as five strokes before FDU charged back on the final few holes to win the team title by one stroke. This is the highest NEC Championship finish for the Pioneers after finishing fourth in each of the last four NEC Tournaments.
Freshman Chelsea Sedlar made program history by becoming the first women's golfer to win the individual NEC title. Sedlar entered the day in fifth place and had her best round of the tournament, carding a one-over 74 to finish the tournament at +10. She had five birdies on the day, including four birdies in a five-hole span from 6-10. This is Sedlar's third straight medalist honor, tying for the top spot at the Hartford Women's Invitational and winning last weekend's SHU Spring Invitational.
Sedlar won medalist honors by one stroke over teammate Ellen Nighbor and FDU's Rebecca Wright. Nighbor was one-under for her final round after birdies on 12 and 13, but finished with a four-over 77 to go to +11 for the tournament. Her second-place showing is a career-high after taking third place in 2015. Abigail Hood was the model of consistency this weekend as she shot her third straight four-over 77 to tie for fourth at +12. Hood made par on 15 of 18 holes Sunday for her highest finish at the NEC Tournament. Stephanie Lowe rounded out the SHU scoring group with her best round of the tournament. Lowe shot a six-over 79 to finish tied for 17th at +26.
