
SHU unbeaten run ends with late overtime goal from morrisville

Shelton, Conn. – Brittany Smith and Taylor Moreland both scored scored off power plays on Tuesday night as the Sacred Heart women's hockey team fell 3-2 to a late goal in overtime.
Morrisville State would open the scoring at the 9:37 mark with a goal by Kanekaroroks McComber, assisted by Ciara Lark, despite the Pioneers outshooting the visitors 9 shots to 6.
12:46 into the second period Morrisville would extend their lead with a goal from freshmen forward Vanessa Klimpke, unassisted. It took SHU less that a minute to respond, Brittany Smith getting the Pioneers off the mark off the power play at 13:26 in the second.
The third period saw SHU fighting hard to get on level terms outshooting Morrisville 14 - 5. That sustained pressure would pay off with the in form Taylor Morland getting SHU level at 12:25 of the third period again taking advantage of the power play for SHU.
With the teams unable to be seperated in regualtion the game went into overtime. Despite SHU outshooting the visitors 38 - 22 with just 13 seconds left to play Morrisville for a break through with a goal from Freshman defender Jessica Ujcik to clinch a 3-2 win for Morrisville.
The two teams wrap up their weekend series Wednesday at 2 p.m.
