SHU Bowling Takes Second Place At Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, Del. – The Sacred Heart bowling team capped a high-scoring weekend with a second-place finish at the Hawk Classic, hosted by Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The Pioneers entered Sunday's bracket round with the highest total pinfall in the tournament, posting a 198.5 average. As the top seed, SHU opened the day with a 4-3 win over Vanderbilt. The Pioneers won three of the first four games by scores of 207-166, 219-194, and 190-180. The Commodores leveled the match with wins in games five and six. SHU used its fourth 200 game of the match to win game seven 200-177 and the match 4-3.
After a 4-2 win over Howard, SHU took on Sam Houston State for the championship. The Pioneers got off to a fast start, winning the first two games 217-156 and 193-189. However, the Bearkats took over from there. Sam Houston State went over 200 in both games three and four to tie the match 2-2. After the two teams bowled to a 172-172 tie, Sam Houston State won game six 233-203 and game seven 198-152 to win the match 4.5-2.5.
The Pioneers open Northeast Conference play in two weeks in Beaver Falls, Pa.
Saturday (Five Game Traditional)
- Pioneers went 2-3 on the day, but finished qualifying with the top total pinfall. (198.5 average)
- Morris finished the first two days with a 209.6 average, seventh-best in the tournament and narrowly missed an All-Tournament Team spot
Match 6: SHU 1,005, Sam Houston State 914
- Lineup: Nardiello, Smith, Bamford, Morris, Boughton
- Smith (226) and Morris (211) both went over 200 to lead Pioneers past Bearkats
Match 7: Sam Houston State 1,079, SHU 916
- Lineup: Nardiello, Smith, Bamford, Morris, Boughton
- Morris posted another 200-plus effort with a 223
Match 8: Tulane 1,004, SHU 961
- Lineup: Nardiello, Smith, Favata, Morris, Boughton
- Nardiello had her first of three straight 200 games against the Green Wave with a 229, her best score of the day.
Match 9: Vanderbilt 1,093, SHU 1009
- Lineup: Nardiello, Smith, Favata, Morris, Boughton
- Morris had her best game of the day with a 244
Match 10: SHU 1,027, Monmouth 899
- Lineup: Nardiello, Smith, Favata, Morris, Boughton
- Favata led the Pioneers with a 233
- Boughton (215) and Nardiello (210) each went over 200
Friday (Five Game Baker, Total Pinfall)
- Pioneers led the tournament field in total pinfall with a 200.3 average, but went 3-2
- Tori Boughton had a 22.06 pins/frame average
- Sarah Morris had a 21.88 pins/frame average

- Lineup: Nardiello, Bamford, Boughton, Smith, Morris
- Morris filled all 10 frames for a 230 total
- Boughton also filled all 10 frames, posting a 214
Match 2: SHU 1,055, Caldwell 900
- Lineup: Nardiello, Smith, McGinn, Morris, Boughton
- SHU only had four open frames against Caldwell
- Morris had eight of 10 strikes for a 234
- Boughton (220), McGinn (217), and Nardiello (192) filled all 10 frames
