
Spencer Earns First Collegiate Win; Somers Wins Twice For Swimming & Diving

The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team dropped a non-conference decision to host Holy Cross on Saturday, falling 171-123. The loss drops the Pioneers to 4-4 on the year.
Lauren Somers earned a pair of wins for the Pioneers, capturing the top spot in the 50 and 200-yard freestyle events. Lauren Spencer picked up her first collegiate win, capturing the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:01.07.
The Pioneers return to action next Saturday, travelling to Assumption for swimming only events. The meet begins at 11:30 am.
Relays
- The Pioneers placed second in both relay events
- Anna Brown, Julia Pusateri, Emily Peter and Victoria Catizone combined for a swim of 1:53. 17 in the 200-medley relay to open the meet
- Somers led of the 400-yard freestyle relay with a 56.52, and was followed by Emily Peter, Brown and Margaret Flaherty for a 3:44.17 final time
Sprints
- Somers touched first in the 50, with a swim of 24.92
- Peter was the third-place finisher in the 50, touching at 25.97
- Kim Hylan was second in the 100-freestyle, with a swim of 56.44, .01 in front of Somers
- Somers touched at 1:57.42 to win the 200-freestyle, with Flaherty at 1:59.12
Strokes
- Fiona Maxwell earned the win in the 200-butterfly with a 2:11.37 effort
- Peter earned the win in the 100-butterfly with a 59.65 finish and Maxwell was second at 1:00.24
- Hylan captured second place in the 100-backstroke, with a swim of 1:01.93, just in front of Brown, who touched at 1:01.98
- Brown placed second in the 200-backstrokes with a 2:14.51, and Spencer placed third at 2:16.19
- Nikole Rudis was third in the 200 fly (2:16.79) and Pusateri placed fourth in the 100-breaststroke with a swim of 1:11.00
- Maxwell was the third-place finisher in the 200 IM with a swim of 2:17.29
Distance
- Spencer gave SHU its first win of the day with her swim in the 1,000
- Flaherty picked up a win for the Pioneers in the 500-freestyle, clocking in at 5:17.97
- Hylan was third in the 500, touching at 5:23.64
Diving
- Nicole Pergolotti placed second in the 1-meter diving, recording 174.53 points
- Pergolotti was third on the 3-meter, with 136.80 points, in her first effort on that board this season
