Pioneers Compete At Traditions Meet

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart men's fencing team had several closed matches at the annual Traditions multi-meet held at Vassar College on Sunday afternoon.
SHU was unable to pick up a dual meet win at the meet against the tough field of Princeton, NJIT, Penn State, Penn, Harvard, NYU.
The Pioneers closest match came against tournament host, Vassar with a 16-11 decision going to the Brewers in round two. After a Vassar sweep in the sabre, Lucas Wetmore, Tyler Endee and Julian Mallet earned two wins each in the foil as SHU took the 6-3 edge. Troy Kapitzke swept all three bouts combined with a win by Dante Centeno & Nicolo Cerminara to give SHU the 5-4 decision in the epee.
SHU will open up the 2018 slate with the Philadelphia Invitational at Penn on the weekend of January 20th.
