Box Score The Sacred Heart University field hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision to Yale University on Johnson Field Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-2, while the Bulldogs are now 1-0.
Yale scored the first four goals of the game, taking a 4-0 lead 21:02 in the game. The Pioneers netted the final goal of the half, with a tally from Lauren Lawson., to draw within 4-1 at the break. Kelsy Hopkins scored the first tally of the second-half, to make it 4-2, but Yale would score twice in the final 5:50 to secure the win.
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, hosting Lehigh at Johnson Field. Game time is 4:30 pm
The Scoring:
- Hopkins and Lawson both scored for the first time this season
- Carol Middough scored three times, and added an assist, to lead the Bulldogs, scoring the first two goals of the game
- Brooke Reese (24:35) and Holly Jackson (31:02) extended the four goal streak to open the game
- Middough completed her hat trick at 64:10 and Bridget Condie netted the final goal with 90 seconds remaining
Noteworthy
- Hailey Power made a save in minding the net in the first half, while Emily Degennaro minded the net for the second half and stopped three shots
- Yale out shot the Pioneers 21-16 for the game
- Both squads earned five penalty corners
- Sydney Terroso earned the win for Yale, with a six-save effort
