Bishop and Spiering Tabbed NEWHA Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Ma.- Sacred Heart University Women's Ice Hockey senior Maddie Bishop and sophomore Kennedy Spiering each picked up a pair of weekly awards for their play this past weekend against Franklin Pierce. Bishop was named Player of the Week while Spiering was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week. The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Feb. 7 when SHU hosts Saint Anselm. Puck-drop is set for 4:00 p.m.
Bishop had a three point week as she tallied two goals and one assist in the two-game set against Franklin Pierce. Her third goal in Saturday's game against the Ravens was a crucial game-winning third goal that pushed the Pioneers to a 3-2 victory over Franklin Pierce to complete the weekend sweep.
Spiering racked up three assists this week for the Pioneers which contributed to the Pioneers victory on Saturday. She also played a crucial defensive role in the Pioneers 3-0 shutout the day before. She currently has nine assists and six goals for 15 points which is a career high in both points and assists.
